The Adelphi Community Garden

How is the garden run?

We have both individual plots as well as a large communal area for extensive plants such as pumpkins, melons, and corn. Members usually tend to their own plots for food but also help out with garden maintenance, watering, and any communal areas. To start a plot just claim an already staked out plot or create your own!

Whats growing?

Corn, Watermelon, Cantelope, several varieties of tomatoes, radishes, peppers, eggplant, squash, cucumber, herbs, berries, apples, more!

How do I get to the Garden?

Our Garden is located behind
8701 Adelphi Road
Adelphi, MD 20783

From campus: (it's about 1 mile from campus) Take Adelphi Rd. north. You will pass the National Archives on the right, and then go under a set of power lines. Immediately make your first right after the power lines, where you'll see a small sign that says "College of Journalism, Association of Black Journalists." This is campus property. Go past the house on the right and park under the trees, close to the woods. (Don't park directly on the driveway). You will see a large lawn, with a large cell phone tower in the middle. The garden is just behind the tower. Yay!

And if you're coming from Metzerott Rd from campus, turn left onto Adelphi at that intersection. You'll have to make a U-turn if you drove, and then turn right into the College of Journalism.

What about Supplies?

We supply everything from the garden plot to the seeds, greenhouse space, tools, compost, mulch, water. All you have to do is put in some time and love.
