t Bombs (BNB) began three (or so) years ago in a Pigtown row home. Seeing red over the prices charged against the price of production; as well as various labor, social, environmental, and fiscal practices of major label breweries; BNB knew a superior brew could be made. One that costs less than a six pack of Budweiser or Coors, but tastes like a top-quality German brew. One that uses all natural and vegan ingredients. One that reuses and recycles their materials and products whenever possible. One that does its own part to loosen the grip of mindless consumerism.
Through trial and error, the freedom to experiment with taste and flavor, and many a hung over morning, BNB has developed into creating high quality brews. Usually the brews are unveiled at parties. For about a $1 donation a glass, we can easily cover the cost of materials for the batches being drunk as well as funding the next round of materials. As well, the parties tend to have a great socializing effect. Maybe the brews act as a social lubricant, but a wide range of people attend these events and it’s not uncommon to find those who don’t really know each other having the time of their lives together. Over the last year, BNB has hosted a workshop where the step-by-step process was demonstrated and explained as well as the unveiling of the seven summer brews. Of late, BNB has been serving at underground shows around the area, much to the delight of both the spectators and the performers. And as always, there’s nary a drop of our hooch left at then end of these events.
The idea of BNB has also spread both near & far. A new chapter was recently created in College Park, MD. The Los Angeles chapter is still going strong. BNB has even gone international, with a chapter in Brisbane, Australia. While the spread is nice, BNB would also like to see more people locally BIYing themselves. It’s fun to attend a BNB party, why not create your own brew & host one yourself? With the right amount of people doing this, there could always be a batch of beer ready somewhere around town.
